After our fire, many of our plants were ruined either by the fire, the demolition, or the rebuild. Our front yard is still an eyesore of a mess. They are planning to fix it soon. There are signs of new spring green in what remains, and that is a good thing. Meanwhile this is typical for what greets anyone arriving to visit:
It kind of makes you feel like you are waiting in line to go on the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney World. I really should put some of those fake cobwebs from Halloween in it!
The back yard, other than suffering from 9 months of neglect, had only a little damage. We are busily fixing it up and enjoying the work that we have put into making it a special space. Hubby and I spent a lot of time in the yard this weekend and I thought that I would share my spring colors with you.
It really is a great yard and I love working in the flowers and soon a vegetable garden, too. Only problem with the yard now is that Hubby snared this.
Snakes, why does it always have to be snakes? (Imagine Harrison Ford voice here, please). Anyhow this wasn't your run-of-the-mill black or garden snake. It was a copperhead. Poisonous and nasty.
So, now when I am bending over to reach into a shrub or flower, I KNOW that there is a snake waiting to take me out. I think that the evil DMV planted them in my yard...
Ooooh scary! Be careful. I love the pretty flowers. Yard work is hard work.
ReplyDeleteYep I think it was the DMV that put it there.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it was the DMV. I doubt they'd waste an employee that way. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty water lily!
ReplyDeleteAt least the snake wasn't on a plane.
I don't even know what I'm saying anymore.
C - I think I need steel toed boots and long leather gloves! Oh,that sounds a little kinky!
ReplyDeleteOT - You think I'd have seen them, being as how they aren't the brightest!
LeeAnne - HAHAHA!! But it WAS dumb enough to get caught!
Laura - The water lilies are so cool with the way they open and shut for the day. A snake ANYWHERE is no friend of mine...
your flowers are lovely & that poor green bush at the top looks like it's trying to make a recovery. maybe by next spring it'll be pretty & happy again.
ReplyDeleteeek, snake! i actually like snakes when they're captive & used to handling & unlikely to bite and kill me, but they make me a bit nervous when i see them in the wild.
Your garden is beautiful and it looks like you have enough to pick some fragrant bouquets for your house, too.
ReplyDeleteThe snake was creepy. I don't know if we have that kind, but we have rattlers.
The DMV they are crazy devils. Love your flowers we are going on about a month straight of rain here in Indiana, wish it would stop!
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe people are STILL getting snow. That seems like a crime!
ReplyDeleteBut these photos of your flowers are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!
Sherilin - The green bush is one of three - and it is the prettiest of the bunch - a real CINDERella (ha! - I crack myself up!)I touched a snake willingly this past summer - it is something that I never need to do again.
ReplyDeleteJayne - The snake was not the kind of surprise I wanted in the back yard. The plants that regenerated or propagated on their own were much better discoveries. I have brought flowers inside and we've eaten lettuce that grew from what remained from last year!
Greg - Thanks - I love my yard - it makes me smile.I hope when your rain ends that the flowers and other vegetation are beautiful!
Meleah - I would go crazy if it was still winter here!!You slipped in there as I was typing. Thanks - I love my garden and so do the birds - especially the hummingbirds! Thanks for stopping by!
ReplyDeleteYes, I am one of the people still dealing with snow!!! Aaaaack! I swear I will not see flowers till August!
ReplyDeleteNice shot of the dead snake by the way! Nothing says great blog fodder like slayed snake! BAHAHAHAHa
Lurrvely pictures! Until the snake. Then I think I barfed a little. Sheesh - be careful!
ReplyDeletethe flowers are GORGEOUS
ReplyDeletethe snake...shudder
you are a really good photographer
that is all
Wow. Is that SPRING over there?!
ReplyDeletePearl
Sandra - I can't imagine it still being winter - I wake to the birds singing in the yard! They are probably saying "There is a snake out here. Help us!"
ReplyDeleteDawn - I wanted to barf -especially thinking how it could have bitten somebody.
PBJ - Amy, Thanks! I love taking pictures and used to develop my own - taking them with a digital camera is easy but not the same!
Pearl - Doesn't Minneapolis have Four Seasons - Winter, Winter, Fourth of July, and Winter?
Eek snake! I'd have screamed.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers though.
Holy bucket of shampoo- that's a snake! Supposedly we have them where I live in abundance, but I've only ever seen one.
ReplyDeleteAnd I killed it in an epic shovel-battle that lasted nearly 25 minutes. A harrowing experience, for sure.
Great blog! Cake B was right!
Caleb
Whisper - You would have heard me scream clear across the country if I had found it first!
ReplyDeleteCaleb - Thanks for visiting! The snake didn't want to die and having a lack of tools at the moment meant that the pruning shears were its downfall. That's too close for me...I would need a flame thrower or something.
I wish I had a garden to neglect. haha
ReplyDeleteCopyboy - I'm working on a new post about some neglected parts - I've found some interesting things!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful garden... apart from the killersnakes!
ReplyDeleteWOW! A copperhead could have ruined your day! We have rattle snakes around here, but don't see them too much. I'm just starting here, so I'm gonna have to back track and find the story about your fire...
ReplyDeleteNom de plume - Thanks - I guess it attracts them!
ReplyDeletePat- Oh rattlers are nasty too! I haven't written about our fire - maybe someday, though.
