30 Days of Photographs II - Reheated Leftovers

Many of the bloggers who took part in the 30 day non-competition have been posting some of the hundreds of extra photos that they took and did not put forward as their "one" photograph for the day. They have taken some amazing shots and should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Their extra shots generally beat any of my published ones, but since nobody "won" any amazing prizes or even consolation gifts I won't act too distraught over my pathetic point-and-shoot efforts. One thing that I did learn from this month is that I miss having a nice camera and will probably buy another one in the near future. I got tired of hearing about the length of certain people's lenses and developed a severe case of Pentax Envy.

Perhaps to your surprise, not knowing me in the real world, I happen to be very organized and detail oriented. That being said, it happens that once I chose a picture for each day, I deleted the rest of the possibilities off of my camera. Those images were doing nothing but taking up space on my memory card. When I searched for any rejected photos, I found two on my hard drive and since they both are decent I will post them here.

I had attempted to take an evening shot of the moon - which is actually quite difficult. This one shot almost came out as I wanted. The moon had all of these puffy clouds around it one night, and I tried to capture it. The other thing about this photo is that it was numbered 666 by the camera for its file, so that made it extra-special.

I present Exhibit A: Momma needs a new camera. Court adjourned.

The other picture that I had saved was for the topic of "bird." I spent a lot of time trying to capture one of the hundreds of birds that frequent our yard. This was one shot that I got after standing like a stupid statue for 10 - 15 minutes.

Mother Bluebird building her nest to lay future eye-peckers.

So there are my leftovers. I hope that you found this exercise in photography to be as fun and interesting as I did. It was time consuming to read and comment on everyone's blogs every day. Now, I may take a tiny break or not. I haven't decided yet. I guess it depends on when I find my funny again...

  1. Where is everybody? I love the moon/cloud shot, I had a similar one involving the beaver which I didn't publish, or show as an outtake, but it was almost what I wanted and I think that one is really cool.

The problem with birds is their wings flap too fast. Someone should lodge a complaint.

  2. What are you talking about??? I made a crapload of consolation prizes. There's a super-duper tab on my blog where all that glitters can be found. Go get some. Please. Maybe you'll find your funny in there too. (If you see mine, please let me know.)

That moon shot is really great. Can't remember what you posted but this one's a keeper. (Yeah, you kinda sorta do need to have a camera that allows you to take pictures using a fast shutter speed to snap a bird in flight.)

  3. Hah! I realized very quickly during this meme that I have the worst camera EVER and I was tempted to get a new one. Except if I do, I won't know what the heck to do with it and will just end up using the point-and-click camera all the time!!

    BTW, Pentax Envy slayed me!!!

  4. I wonder if you are going to miss this photo challenge. I think it really inspired you and prompted you to think outside of the box.

  5. These outakes are funny! And I desperately need a new camera too. And also, I need a blog break. April kicked my ass! xoxox

  6. I really, really don't need a new camera. I wouldn't mind a longer lens, though... What I do need, is the common sense to actually delete some photos every once in a while. ;) I can totally see what you were going for with the moon shot. The moon is so tricky to shoot, I don't think I have one decent photo of it.

  7. That's a really good moon shot, LM! You took some really great photos and should seriously consider investing in a good camera. An Olympus would probably suit your needs; the name itself suggests 'hugeness' so you wouldn't have to worry about "Pentax Envy" (which cracked me up!).

  9. I participated in a month long photo challenge last year with a few non-blogging friends. We had a great time doing this. I'm sorry I didn't find you sooner and apologize for not realizing you had become a follower of my blog. My head has been elsewhere lately with computer issues. That is my excuse and I'm sticking to it. ;-)

I am coming back here later today to read older posts of yours. I feel a kindred spirit in your use of humor.

  10. Love the moon one! It does seem a bit evil too.
