30 Days of Writing - A Roadblock

There's nothing worse than finally getting into a good groove only to be sidelined by something beyond your control. Perhaps this happens to you on a weekly basis or you may be one of the chosen few that rarely hits a bump in the road. If I had an internal GPS it would constantly be rerouting me to other destinations and on crazy off-of-the-beaten-path dirt roads.

Perhaps the one thing that I have accomplished in all of my challenges as a mom is that I can roll with the changes (sing along if you must). Having special needs kids means that you never know what your day will bring. But that is also part of the beauty of the situation. I have gotten to watch the fruits of my labors (physical and mental) come into full bloom.

I have left stores without a cart-full of purchases more times than I can count because of a phone call. There have been multiple emergency trips to doctors, hospitals, and rooms full of teachers and school staff. These things are not planned but jump up and send you reeling through time and space. You hold on tight for the ride and hope that the end result is favorable to all involved.

What has emerged from the multiple melees are two thoughtful children who have learned that there are things worth fighting for and that they must learn to handle their own challenges in the big wide world. They have learned how to stand up for their rights. If that is the one thing that I have taught them, then I am happy to have taken on all of the roadblocks that have come our way.
