    This makes me think of all those horror movies where the main character hesitates outside the basement door and you yell at the screen "Don't go down there". They never seem to hear you because they always go down there.

    When I was a kid, I dreaded being sent down to get a can of something in the basement pantry. I'd run up and down the stairs as fast as I could - always sure the bogey man was hiding under the stairs!
