30 Days of Writing Minus 2 - Cheesy

 Cheesy

When Nicky and Mike first sent out the list of prompts for this Writing Challenge, I stared at them for a few minutes. I read them several times and came to an awful conclusion. I had not the first idea of anything to write for ANY of them. It was then that I decided that this challenge was just not for me.

I thought about it again as Nicky dared to single people out and chastise them publicly – as if that was going to do any good.

Then I came to the realization that I had to write something. An old song popped into my head and my vision cleared. I knew just what to do.

If you are a youngster, you should view this video, as my entry demands to be sung…

So with apologies to John Prine and Dear Abby (who passed away as I was 2/3 done with this) I give you this:

Dear Abby, Dear Abby

I have to confess

I entered a contest under great duress

To write a post for 28 days in a row

With a first prompt of cheesy, My writing’s gonna blow

Signed, Laughing Mom

Now go visit Nicky and Mike and see who else created something for you to read...

  1. LM, great minds think alike. I also rewrote song lyrics. And you thought you had nothing!

Oh, and these are the best prompts ever! :-)

  2. LM, you're not alone, I came to the exact same conclusion. I might just have to steal your idea and resort to some song lyrics tomorrow..

  3. Dear Laughing Mom,

The best course of action here is to seek counseling. If Nicky does not want to seek counseling with you, you should do it on your own. You can also call Posters Anonymous at 1-800-POSTERS.

    Abby.

(At least this is what I imagined she would say)

    1. Thank you, duf. I actually made up lyrics to this song and sang them in a restaurant once - but that's another story.

  6. Hey Laughing Mom! Indigo here, another victim of Nicky's naming-and-shaming. I'm paying too, tho I have a nasty suspicion I may be kidnapped very soon. It'll be ou tof my hands. Indigo =)

  7. I love John Prine! Once saw in him concert in the unfortunately named resort town of Beaver Creek, Colorado. He manages to be both funny and poignant, which is a rare combination.

Oh, I have a great Dear Abby story. But I can't tell it now, because I have no life thanks to this stupid writing challenge. Maybe next month.

    1. I saw him once too, but after a few too many drinks and a badly over-heated theater fell asleep for part of the show.

  9. Another John Prine fan here! The titles of his songs would make great writing prompts.

By the way, I'm glad to see that your complexion is back to normal. :)

  10. Don't worry, the first day is always the toughest (he says knowing full well that he is full of it).

  11. I had the same thought about not knowing what to write for anything of them. My immediate reaction was to find out where I could sign up. Just a teensy bit crazy...good luck on the challenge!

  12. I share your dismay of Nicky's public shaming antics. She went and called me out on Facebook. That's where I go to relax, you know?

By the way, thank you for posting that John Prine video. I'm one of the "youngsters" who has never heard this song until now. Where have I been all these years?

    Oh yeah...Facebook.

  13. I'm not a youngster but I'd never heard this before. This is perfection & I love that you've used this approach for all 3 days so far. I'm with Paula - I wish I'd thought of something clever like this too.
