30 Days of Writing - Best Friend

Anyone who has read my blog, knows that I have a devoted hubby who is certainly my best friend. However, I call him "dodo" all of the time.

It is not because he is an idiot or anything of that sort.

You see, he now has a job that keeps him on the road for what seems like "all of the time" to us but really is too frequent to keep us sane - not that's really in the realm of possibilities anyway. With this new job came a new phone and number and all of the latest in electronic gadgetry. Yes, he was first in the family to experience an iPhone.

I know that iPhones are old news, but it was new to us and he loved playing with all of the apps and cool stuff that came with it.

Being gone and constantly in meetings, means that we text a lot more often than we actually talk. With  different time zones and airports, our conversations are minimal.

My hubby is romantic and often just sends a hug or kiss through the cell towers and satellites to me. What he did not know was that autocorrect was changing what he sent, as he never reviewed his outgoing messages. He thought he was sending "xoxo", but he was constantly calling me a "dodo" in his texts.

For several weeks I would purposely send back "dodo" in my reply texts.

He didn't catch onto the joke until one day when I asked him to stop and look at what he had typed to me.

Now that is the message that gets typed on purpose between us.

Who knew that "dodo" means "I love you"!?!

  7. That's really funny. I wonder what would have happened if he had started with the O's first and the X's second? oxox

Would it have dropped the second O and X and you would have thought he was calling you an ox? Would it have added an F so you would think he was calling you a fox? Now I can't stop thinking about this and I don't own an iPhone. You have to try it and tell me what happens. You get 250 points for this post and another 150 if you tell me what happens!! :-)

  8. Oh, that is funny. I hate auto correct. It changes perfectly valid words for no reason that I can figure out. I won't turn it off though because on my iPad, it's a pain in the ass to have to switch keyboards just for the apostrophe.

  9. Awwwww! This story is so sweet! Your words reveal what a special relationship you two have.

I always called my students "dodos". They always loved it. It is a sweet term with a funny sound...although you are really criticizing them a bit. I have directed the play, "Alice in Wonderland" many times. I love the character, the DoDo bird!

  10. Your story made me smile but without any context I am still hesitant to send my wife a message calling her a 'DODO' - uh unless I don't mind taking a cab home from the airport! W.C.C.
