30 Days of Photographs II - Portrait

Portrait

I think this topic has had me the most stumped of all so far. "Portrait" has such a formal ring to it and falls out of the scope of "point and shoot" or spur of the moment photography. A portrait is something that is composed and planned. It should show the essence of the person being photographed. It is generally a serious thing - something that I am not on most occasions.

So, it's 2:30 in the morning on "portrait" day and I've just gotten Her Royal Cuteness in from her prom. She looked amazing , but will not let me post her image. I sit here and I have nothing that I like to post for this theme although I have taken lots of pictures. I just deleted an entire post that I wasn't happy about. Then I took my own picture.

Therefore, I give you "Portrait of a Frustrated Blogger."

MikeWJ will call this desperation...yup...that just about sums it up just fine.

Please visit these fine portrait artists to see their masterpieces.

  1. You are the first to have posted their own picture. Good for you. So far everyone else wimped out. I like it.

    1. No, a couple of others have posted their own photo (not for today's theme, but for other themes) including Tanya and Mariann. :)

    2. It didn't say SELF-portrait so nobody really wimped out, or did they???

  2. I don't even know how to take a self-portrait so you win!

Portrait is such a stuffed-shirt word but modern artists have been interpreting it in much more fun ways than the older artists. (While this may not have been fun for you, I really like a bushel and a peck.)

    1. Thanks, Cheryl. I hate to have my picture taken, so having control of the camera actually made it easier.

    1. Oh, it wasn't planned. I just changed my mind on my post at 2:00 am when I couldn't fall asleep.

  4. I laughed outloud! "Portrait of a frustrated blogger." How many times have I heard, "Mom, you better not blog about this!"

    1. I probably shouldn't but I let my kids agree to things that I post about them. If they don't want it on the web, then I let them say so.

  5. While it would have been cool to see the prom photo, this one works, because I think we've all been there, especially during this photo meme. :)

    1. I wasn't going to post a prom shot. I had written about family portraits and had taken a shot of my son looking at a portrait of the two of us from 18 years ago that I just had reprinted. I was trying to make "portrait of a portrait" work.

  6. Haha, I love it! That's exactly what I look like right now, trying to think of something for Fish Tales.

  7. You look exactly like me??? Poor dear.

I have posts ready for everyday but one from here on out - hopefully no more desperation.

  8. You have certainly mastered the "frustrated blogger" shot, and you should receive a medal for that. Or at least a coffee refill.

    1. MikeWJ already told me that I can't get a trophy for this - so maybe a medal will do!But I'll happily take a coffee any day!

    2. I wish we had prizes to hand out. Maybe little bags of candy and marbles, or something. Participation trophies. I think we all deserve one. This thing is very trying.

  9. Ha! That would be me - right down to the eyeglasses and the chin in the hand - except you don't have all of the grey hair I have.

Great shot and a true depiction of "portrait", self or otherwise.

    Now, go get some sleep!

    ;-)

I would love some sleep - never get much and have just gotten used to it.
