Anybody else have "A-well-a, bird, bird, bird, well, the bird is the word" as an earworm today? Now you do. You're welcome.
This theme had me stumped for awhile. Our back yard is a bird haven. Try as I might, I couldn't get a decent shot of one. I stood there with my camera and watched goldfinches, bluebirds, cardinals, wrens, and even a woodpecker escape my lens. This may justify a new camera, I think.
My sister raises peacocks and I wanted to get a photo of her male bird, Mo. The one day that I could drive out to her farm, it rained. Of course it would.
I thought about taking a picture of my middle finger raised in salute to today's theme, but I do try to keep it friendly here for the most part.
So, here are last year's feathers from Mo. Just imagine that there's a bird at the other end...
Bird
Hopefully these folks won't give you the bird at their sites:
I don't need the rest of the bird to go with these feathers. This photos stands on its own quite beautifully. (It's Spring and the birds are busy busy busy so they are not about to be still for your camera, you silly woman.)
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yup! The bluebirds are building a nest in their new box. When the hummingbirds appear is when the sexy fun really fills the sky.
DeleteMo's actually a peacock? This explains a lot....
ReplyDeleteThat said, this is a wonderful photo, and the composition is just perfect. Great job!
Yeah, while I'm living under the pretense that I'm a male human livinig in the UK, with a wife and two kids, I'm actually a peacock owned by laughingmom's sister.
DeleteThanks Ziva! Mo is a temperamental male with a bride named Meena. He can have multiple women at the same time but will fight off any other male suitors. Does this sound like our UK Mo?
DeleteIt certainly does, LaughingMom.
DeleteI'm not sure.. We're going to have to throw some women at him and see what he does.

ReplyDelete*whistles while looking around*
You are a better woman than I.
Haha! Keep whistling! Maybe no one will notice.
DeleteI did. I gave everybody the bird, but they just can't see me. In fact, I'm doing it now. Love peacock feathers, but don't like peacocks. They are noisy noisy noisy and not very friendly either. Birds in general scare the crap out of me. Nice photo!
ReplyDeleteThey are noisy - you should hear it when they sound off and then her donkeys start braying. It's deafening!
DeleteThanks for that Surfin' Bird ear worm. Great pic. Never knew peacocks actually shed those lovely feathers.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome - if you tire of yours, you are welcome to mine. I can't get it out of my head and now hear it being sung by Homer Simpson. Anyhow, the male sheds his plumage in the fall and regrows it in the spring. Mo hasn't quite come to full beauty yet but will shortly.
DeleteI've never heard of that bird song you mentioned, but I will thank you for NOT giving me an earworm today (I gave myself one yesterday).
ReplyDeleteGreat shot! I like the angle and close-up of the feathers.
;-)
Thanks! I took a bunch of shots til I finally liked this one.
DeleteNo wonder they are so vain and strut around like that. I would too if I had those feathers! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThey are funny birds to watch and their peachicks are adorable.
DeleteThis is a beautiful photo, it truly is. I love it. But I can't let that fool me, because Peacock Mo -- actually, that's not clear enough, so just to be perfectly clear, I mean your sister's bird, Mo, and not UK Mo -- is a bird. And birds can't be trusted because all they want to do is peck your eyes out. Because that's what birds do. They peck your eyes out.
ReplyDeleteWell thanks, Mike. That's why I wear glasses instead of contacts.
DeleteThis photo is STUNNNNNING! I absolutely LOVE peacock feathers!!!!!!!!!!!!! This might very well be my favorite photo of the day, AGAIN!
ReplyDeleteWow, Meleah - thanks! They are prettier in person.
DeletePeacocks just have THE craziest feathers ever. Great shot of them.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mike. They have some odd feathers in addition to the "eye" ones. They just don't photograph as well.
DeleteI think you captured the essence of these birds without photographing them in the traditional way. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteLOVE this photo, the colors the depth...and of COURSE there's a bird attached! :)
