Time
When my son was pre-school age, I hand-painted Disney characters onto his shoes. I found those little sneakers as I was sorting through a box of things that were rescued from our house. There are so very few things that I had cherished and saved from my children's first days and years that survived the fire or water. Most are just memories now. I held those little tennis shoes in my hand and crossed the garage floor to see his current pair of shoes. My how time does fly.
For a good time call:
Nice you were able to hold on to a memento of times past. I don't know that I'd want to hold on to the larger ones unless they've got odour eaters in them.
ReplyDeleteHa! Luckily he's past those stinky teen years. Those shoes I was glad to lose!
DeleteYou might just get the awwww moment of the day, although it's close with you and Kristen. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks - I think she wins that most everyday!
DeleteWow! What a great find. Unlike that wishy-washy Bryan, I'm giving you the "AWWW" moment of the day.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheryl. It's just like a man to be wishy-washy.
DeleteWhat a good mom you are--hand painting shoes? So glad they survived the fire.
ReplyDeleteI made a lot of things for both of my kids (clothes, costumes, blankets, jewelry, the list is crazy). Probably the worst of the losses to me were the things that I made for them to keep and maybe pass on. That tore a hole in my heart. The shoes made me smile, though.
DeleteWhat a lovely, original photo this is -- so sweet, even a bit bittersweet, yes?
ReplyDeleteYes, bittersweet really describes it. He turns 20 this summer and I find that hard to grasp.
DeleteOh wow, you hand-painted the shoes? You are such a good mom.. I love both the photo and the post, great job!
ReplyDeleteHe really loved them. I guess that is why I kept them.
DeleteThat is a wonderful photo that brought me a grin from ear to ear! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda. The shoes make me grin too.
DeleteAwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
ReplyDeleteThat made me smile AND brought a tears to my eyes.
Damn.
They do grow fast - don't they?
DeleteGorgeous little photo. My wife has her and her brother's first shoes in bronze. We've kept our daughters first shoes for a similar memento, my son is currently still in his first shoes, but they'll be kept ;)
ReplyDeleteI lost my son's but have my daughter's first shoes - they were in different locations in the house at the time of the fire. Funny thing is that the same lady who fitted me for my first shoes also fitted my children!
DeleteThis is my favorite photo so far today! I love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nora!
DeleteYour great photo tugged at my Mom heart today! They grow up so fast and are gone too soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks. My heart has been tugged and pulled for so long that I must be like elasticman!
DeleteWonderful and warm take on today's theme!
ReplyDelete;-)
Thanks! sometimes I can be warm and a little fuzzy.
DeleteWait, you didn't paint the big shoes too?
ReplyDeleteI wonder what he would say if he got up tomorrow and had Mickey Mouse on his shoes? Or Spongebob?
DeleteThat is so sweet! Really one of the sweetest things I have seen a mother do!
ReplyDeleteOh - you know that just clutched right at my heart. I can completely understand. So fast...
ReplyDeleteThis one is so moving. Perfect image of time. Good job!
