30 Days of Writing - Camels

"A one hump camel makes a one hump poop. And a two hump camel makes a two hump poop." from Everyone Poops by Taro Gomi

Whenever I think of a camel, that line pops into my mind.

If you know the book, bear with me, but for the uninformed there is a book titled Everyone Poops. It is a children's picture book designed to take the mystery away from that bodily function. It shows all types of animals and the poop that they make.

Favorite Son was an early reader. He figured out the code of the alphabet and was happily reading on his own at the age of 3. My mother and I took him shopping with us one day at that age. He was being a bit fussy so while in a children's store, my mother showed him the book section and that book in particular. If you gave the kid a book, he was set and read it immediately.

Problem was, he really liked the "poop" book. He wouldn't let go of the "poop" book. He let us all know that he really liked the "poop" book. So my mother bought the kid the "poop" book.

I can still hear him reading that page aloud in his little sweet voice. Now, almost 17 years later he and his voice have certainly changed.

Some things just stick in our minds, and that one still makes me smile...

  2. I love this post. Memories of our kids when they were so young always make me choke up. I was shopping at a Sears store and my son wandered off while I was at the cash register. He was not quite 3. I looked around and it took me a moment to spot him. He had climbed up on a display toilet where he dropped his pants and sat down to take a poop. A lot of people were very amused. I wanted to act like he wasn't mine. But it was funny once we got out of there!

  3. What a lovely memory. I still get a memory of me reading when I was very young, and how the words on paper made me feel as I read each word. It's a fleeting memory (feeling), but one that I can always recall :)

I've never heard of the poop book, but I imagine every child would enjoy it!

  5. I taught my sons to read, and of course, they all wanted to know how to spell those "special" words. Like fart. To put into a story
Thanks for the wonder reminder of those days . I laughed out loud.

  9. OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH! I know that book SO WELL. I remember reading it to all three kids. And I used a funny voice for the camel page..."A One Hump Camel Makes a One Hump Poop! A Two Hump Camel Makes a Two Hump Poop. ONNNNLYYY KIDDDDDINGGGGGG!" I don't know if Only Kidding was in the book, but I always said it. Then they would repeat the camel lines. So funny.
